DOMINI DE LA CARTOIXA
Priorat, Spain
This winery is called Domini de la Cartoixa (The Priory's domain) and as the name indicates, these lands were once owned by the Carthusian monks of Scala Dei Priory. The winery is the culmination of the constant labour of a man of science. Miguel Pérez Cerrada, oenologist and university lecturer, made this winery in the Priorat his life's work and aimed to make very individual wines here. After his passing in 2013, the winery is now managed by his wife Merche Dalmau with a professional team.
The winery's vineyard in El Molar (Catalonia) is made up of eleven hectares of wine stocks which are surrounded by woods and open countryside and belong to the prestigious D.O.C. Priorat. Every year the vines are controlled using strictly scientific criteria in order to produce ripe fruit which reflect the "terroir" and natural surroundings. In a Robert Parker tasting in 2012, Clos Galena is among the first forty best rated Priorat wines, and Gran Crossos and Galena are among the top 80
